Student Veterans of America |
SVA is a 501(c)(3) coalition of student veterans groups on college campuses across the globe. These member chapters are the "boots on the ground” that help veterans reintegrate into campus life and succeed academically. Each chapter must be an officially recognized student group by their university or college and provide a peer-to-peer network for veterans who are attending the school. Additionally, chapters often coordinate campus activities, provide pre-professional networking, and generally provide a touchstone for student veterans in higher education. Friday, January 11, the Student Veteran of America chapter at Clemson University cut the ribbon to open the Student Veteran Success Center and G.I. Bill Help Desk. The center, staffed by student veteran volunteers, is a “resource for veterans who need help with Veterans Affairs and G.I. Bill paperwork and as a support network as veterans adjust to college life”. SVA’s executive director Michael Dakduk was honored to participate in the ceremony and speak with Clemson University President Jim Barker regarding additional steps that can be taken to support student veterans on campus. Local reporters attended the event and highlighted the Clemson Student Veteran Association on the evening news.
